Post Doctoral Student in Algal Biotechnology (Finance)

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Research Scientist to join our team in advancing research and development within the field of algal biotechnology at Biotechnology Program, Department of Engineering Technology at University of Houston. This position will involve leading innovative projects aimed at optimizing microalgae cultivation, genetic manipulation, and the production of value-added chemicals. The ideal candidate will utilize their technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills to drive product development and contribute to scientific excellence. A strong commitment to continuous achievement and innovation is key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and execute research projects focused on lipid content optimization, and genetically modified microalgae.
• Conduct mutational, stress induction, and gene expression studies to enhance the production of value-added chemicals in cyanobacteria and microalgae.
• Design and optimize heterotrophic cultivation methods, gene knockout procedures, and transesterification processes.
• Collaborate on the development pretreatment, hydrolysis and fermentation of algal polysaccharides to fuels and chemicals.
• Contribute to the academic community through publications, presentations, and editorial contributions.
• Mentor and guide junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
• Utilize a range of advanced laboratory equipment including Gas Chromatography (GC), PCR, HPLC, photobioreactor and automated fermenters for experimental analysis and data collection.
Qualifications:
• PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field with five years' post-doctoral experience.
• Proven track record of significant contributions to the field of algal biotechnology and related disciplines.
• Expertise in genetic manipulation, oxidative stress studies, and mutation research in microalgae.
• Extensive experience with advanced laboratory techniques such as enzyme purification, electrophoresis, and molecular biology tools.
• Proficiency in bioinformatics platforms and scientific applications (Matlab, Minitab, Design Expert).
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities.
