Canoe Master Support (Construction)
Manage the canoe shop and all areas related to the maintenance and repairs of the camp's fleet of 100+ wooden canoes as well as other canoes that are used for programming.
Skilled in construction specifically complex wood and canvas canoes, with the understanding that these skills will be acquired and honed over time through practice and experience.
Collaborate with the Program Directors to execute the canoe programs for summer trail staff and campers.
Implement paddle building workshops, for involvement with Environmental Education groups, and other programming efforts.
Assist Property Manager in the overall maintenance of facilities to include carpentry work, interior and exterior finishes, systems monitoring, janitorial responsibilities, and work crew supervision.
Assist with food service at camp including preparing meals for groups as needed.
Maintain canoe repair building in conjunction with the Property Manager.
Actively engage in staff meetings.
Other camp responsibilities as needed.
3. Relationships:
This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Program Directors, the Site Manager, alumni, and the Canoe Fleet Management Committee. This role represents the camp to external partners and stakeholders, fostering relationships to enhance camp operations and visibility.?
4. Qualifications:
Required
Minimum age of 18.
Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED provided by YMCA or other certified organization or trained within 6-months of hire
Experienced and skilled in wooden canoe maintenance, repair, construction and program development.
Strong organizational skills and a willingness to work closely with others.?
Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
Ability to perform and teach many areas of programming.?
Flexibility and passionate to working in a camp environment.
Ability to lead and cook meals for up to 150 people.
Preferred
Experience working with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Ability to become DQF (formerly DOT) certified driver.
Bi/multilingual.
Ability to obtain Food Safe Certification by the county Public Health Department.?
5. Work Conditions:
Ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities.?
Ability to lift a canoe weighing up to 90lbs and carry up to a hundred yard away.?
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to travel for training, meetings, or program delivery.
