What will your job look like?
The Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting accurate and timely billing/invoicing and reports based on health plan requirements. The Billing Specialist is also responsible for Accounts Receivable payment follow-up and appeals. The Billing Specialist will also analyze and validate the data included in billing/invoicing and will research and escalate discrepancies identified.
Location: This role is a hybrid role if located within 40 miles of an MTM office location.
What you'll do:
Complete health plan billings based on contractual requirements
Reconcile outstanding health plan aging balances
Review and monitor reimbursements due from different health plans and determine appropriate collection methods
Complete and submit custom reports requested by contracted health plans
Compile monthly denial reports
Compile proper paperwork and conduct appropriate research to appeal claim denials, including requests for refunds/credits when applicable
Communicate effectively and professionally with external customers
Always maintain confidentiality whether in reference to confidential information or as it relates to medical information for specific patients
Adhere to all company policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
What you'll need:
Experience, Education & Certifications:
High School diploma or GED
Minimum 1 year experience in customer service
Previous experience in healthcare billing/coding or claims processing
Skills:
Must have effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize work and meet established deadlines and goals
Beginner to intermediate skills with Microsoft Excel, and Word, with the ability to import/export data to/from various data sources
Ability to maintain high level of ethics and confidentiality
Works well independently
Sufficient time management
Ability to adapt and learn on the fly given changes of course towards requests and research
Dependable/reliable
Ability to work well under pressure within a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology and services
Knowledge of contracts and the application of insurance contracts in the reimbursement process
Possess critical thinking skills, evidenced by creating new policies and procedures that improve the operation of the Billing Department

Salary Min: $18.00/hr
Salary Max: $21.00/hr
