The Technology Strategy Execution & Enablement team is responsible for driving the firm's technology strategy and execution excellence across the technology organization. This includes designing and executing strategic initiatives to enhance enterprise technology efficiency and innovation, managing the office of the Global CTO, and ensuring seamless collaboration among technology, data, and enterprise transformation teams. The team will also focus on comprehensive reporting and analytics to provide actionable insights that inform decision-making and optimize performance. By aligning technology operations with business objectives, the team will play a key role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and agility within the technology landscape.
The Role
The General Manager (GM) will provide operational leadership and oversight of the performance of the Chief Technology Office by leading business planning, business administration, program management and support for the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Acts as a key partner and liaison to other business unit (BU) leaders and works with a broad group of stakeholders within and outside of technology to advance work, lead the execution of key priorities, and ensure information is shared effectively and clearly on behalf of the CTO. The GM proactively manages financial, communication and other issues as they arise and is responsible for providing support in these areas to other members of the BU lead team. The GM is also responsible for making decisions related to business management needs and priorities by working closely with the leadership team.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Technology Strategy & Enablement (with matrixed reporting to the CTO), the General Manager is responsible for:
Chief of Staff
Sets agendas for and facilitates CTO lead team meetings, in partnership with the CTO and lead team, to drive execution.
Enables creation of efficiency, scalability, and capacity through development of policies, practices, and processes for repeatable work.
Ensures effective and efficient use of CTOs time to include prioritization, response management, and organization of email, communications, meetings.
Efficient Operating Model:
Designs and implements an efficient operating model for the CTO, streamlining processes and workflows to maximize productivity and innovation.
Identifies areas for process improvement and drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Resourcing and Talent Management:
In partnership with HR, leads programs impacting the recruitment, development, and retention of top technology talent within the CTO.
Supports execution of talent activities such as technical training and workforce planning.
Builds and nurtures a high-performance team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
Connects the CTO GM network to solve common problems and ensure deadlines are met, information is rolled up consistently, and information is cascaded and shared effectively.
Actively participates in COO GM network and represents Technology organization.
Works with key internal partners and stakeholders outside of technology (HR, Finance, TRP GM network, etc.) on key processes and activities to drive on behalf of CTO and ensure coordination across the various partner areas and help facilitate cross – CTO decisions.
Works with HRBP and Corporate Communications to develop and execute communication strategy for the CTO Group. Guides the planning and execution of key touch points for Technology associates and leaders including town halls, Extended Lead Team (XLT) meetings, and people leader calls.
Develops a broad network in the CTO Group and across the firm to keep a pulse on associate morale and needs and identify any opportunities for increased stakeholder engagement.
Business Management and Financial Planning
Oversees the operational aspects of the technology organization, ensuring seamless execution of projects, initiatives, and technology operations.
Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of operations and implement improvements as needed.
Develops and manages the CTO budget, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources for technology projects, staffing, and infrastructure.
Monitors financial performance and makes data-driven decisions to optimize spending while achieving desired outcomes.
Prepares Technology group 3-year strategic plan and budget in collaboration with Lead Team and finance business partners; identify and propose metrics for Technology group to measure success and productivity.
Prepares Technology part of COO group quarterly business reviews.
Works with finance business partner on an ongoing basis to ensure Technology group remains on-budget and makes recommendations for any changes or re-allocations. Manages open positions to ensure up to date hire dates and drives processes to reallocate as needed.
Effectively oversee external vendor engagements and professional services spend across the organization in close alignment with FP&A and procurement.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 10+ years of total relevant work experience
Preferred:
Professional work experience in the financial services industry – particularly in asset management. Experience working in a technology organization a plus.
Experience in Chief of Staff / GM role where responsibilities include optimizing operations, business management, budget oversight, and cost optimization within a technology context.
Demonstrated proficiency in setting priorities and executing; needs minimal guidance to execute. Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Influential leader able to build consensus, bring others along, and drive change adapting to people or the situation; systematically builds support at multiple levels and across groups.
Collaborative leader, able to develop broad and deep relationships across the organization.
FINRA Requirements
FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.
Work Flexibility
This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to three days per week from home.
Base salary ranges:
$206,500.00 - $350,000.00 for the location of: California, New YorkPlacement within the range provided above is based on the individual's relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
