Bachelor's degree in education required
Current MN teaching license required
Minimum 3 years teaching experience required
Experience in a high-performing, fast-paced environment preferred
Description
Under the supervision of the principal, English language (EL) teachers are responsible for student achievement. EL teachers screen students, determine language proficiency, write lesson plans, model exemplary behavior, build relationships, problem solve, and align instruction to the language-acquisition needs of students. EL teachers are data driven and explore innovative instructional practices. EL teachers partner with Academic Coaches to continually develop their practice.
Successful EL teachers will possess integrity, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and maintain accountability for their actions. EL teachers will align themselves with NMA's core principles and understand the unique challenges of immigrant and refugee communities.
Foster a culture of learning that embraces the strengths of all students and empowers them to achieve their academic goals.
Screen students to identify appropriate EL instruction.
Maintain accurate records and use data to make instructional decisions.
Provide individual, small-group, and large-group instruction for identified students.
Co-teach with general education teachers.
Develop and deliver highly effective lessons that increase students' English proficiency.
Use curriculum and materials that reflect the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Establish learning goals and collaboratively track students' progress towards goals.
Proactively engage families in NMA's academic program.
Actively participate in EL team meetings and/or academic leadership meetings.
Continually seek ways to improve EL instruction for students at NMA.
Coach and support general education teachers in the use of best practices in English acquisition.
Model the RHINO Way, and teach students the RHINO Way using PBIS strategies.
Maintain a growth mindset and a positive attitude; successfully solve problems.
Set personal professional development goals; engage in professional development and coaching opportunities.
Maintain a working knowledge of EL programs and adhere to all guidelines and statutes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
