ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, under the Morsani College of Medicine, includes the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program, and an entry-level and post-professional master's degree programs in Athletic Training (AT). The school is actively engaged in education, clinical care, research, and service. The DPT professional program is ranked in the top 50 PT programs per the US News and World Report. The USF Athletic Training Program was the first graduate professional AT program to be housed in a College of Medicine and currently has one of the largest and most diverse student populations in the country. Faculty, staff, and students within the school are engaged in and committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, serving in university and national level DEI leadership and committee service. The school's research mission generates over $5M in funded extramural research. The school also provides clinical services at the USF Physical Therapy Center in collaboration with other healthcare specialties. Haley VA Hospital, Lakeland Regional Health, Moffitt Cancer Center, Advent Heath, HCA Healthcare, etc.) offer clinical, educational, and research affiliations.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research Lab Manager is crucial for the effective operation of the motion analysis laboratory within the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. The ideal candidate will oversee lab management and operations, contributing to ongoing and emerging research projects, and collaborate with multiple Principal Investigators and research personnel, contributing to studies on human motion analysis, balance, neuromuscular performance and more. The role also encompasses maintaining both hardware, software and licenses in the Human Functional Performance Lab and serving as a valuable resource for research faculty. This position supports the school's diverse research areas, including applied physiology, biomechanics and motor control, environmental medicine, health services research, and technology and rehabilitation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the daily operations of the SPTRS lab spaces, ensuring hardware are always in good working condition, software are updated. Coordinates or conducts repairs when needed. Maintains all software licenses and service agreements. Maintains lab calendar for accessibility by research team for the optimum usage in maximizing lab facilities.
Works with investigators to develop software that is needed for specific projects. Designs the system and sub systems to meet research design objectives. Designs, modifies, and installs mechanical components and integrates them into a system. Performs analytical and predictive studies to support research. Communicates effectively with principal investigators, collaborators, contractors, vendors, and graduate students to modify the design of the project.
Provides assistance, when needed, for collection and processing of any lab data. Monitors compliance of study procedures with Federal, state, and university regulations. Ensures that documents such as eligibility forms and informed consent are appropriately gathered and maintained, HIPAA regulations are followed, and that safety procedures are implemented and enforced.
Makes significant contributions to research papers, data and technical reports, and presentations to sponsoring agencies. Drafts portion of grant proposals, which may include budget proposals.
Trains visiting scientists, technicians, and students in the use of equipment. Assist in creating SOPs for data collection, processing and storing of all data collected in the lab.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biomechanics or similar field, with two years of relevant experience.
FLSB1310 equivalency:
Four years of directly related experience can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in Engineering; or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with two years of engineering or technical engineering experience. Work experience may be substituted for the Master's degree but may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Knowledge of 3D kinetics and kinematics; familiarity with gait lab equipment including motion capture systems , force places, IUS. etc.
