Position Title: Battery Systems Modeling Engineer
Position Location: Florist Tower, 5757 N Green Bay Avenue, Glendale, WI 53209 *In Office
Travel: 5% Domestic travel required.
Days / Hours: Mon – Fri / 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Summary of Duties: Provide thermal management system designs and guidance to facilitate development of Li-Ion battery cells and battery packs. Provide CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and thermal simulations to predict performance of temperature distribution within cells and battery systems, to establish operating ranges and key design parameters. Optimize system design to balance cost, performance, mass, volume and thermal efficiency. Provide knowledge for defining and executing FEA simulations to validate battery design concepts regarding mechanical robustness. Provide technical guidance to designers, engineers, suppliers, and support personnel. Generate test plans (DVP&R) for thermal, mechanical and durability requirements. Ensure designs meet expected functions and failure modes in full validation of components and battery systems. Assist in assembly and test of battery systems or prototypes for low volume programs or experiments. Manage engineering documentation to ensure sensible archive of information, including engineering calculations, engineering drawings, intellectual property, DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis), validation reports, meeting minutes, trip reports, supplier evaluations, and customer documents/communication. Design for manufacturability (DFM) ensuring design of components, and battery systems optimizes manufacturing process at battery system assembly, and vehicle level assembly. Ensure the design of components facilitates handling throughout product life cycle, from shipping through disassembly and recycling.
REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field of study and 3 years of experience in Thermal and Mechanical System Design.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience with:
3 years of experience with selection and characterization of thermal material; 3 years of experience in finite element analysis (FEA); 3 years of experience with FEA simulation skills including pre and post processing; 3 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation skills including pre and post processing; 1 year of experience with computer aided design (CAD) SolidWorks; 1 year of experience with ANSYS or StarCCM+ tools; 1 year of experience with MatLab; and 1 year of experience in crash requirement analysis;
Any and all experience may be gained concurrently.
