POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department Administrator directs all administrative and operational activities for the academic department, fulfilling the educational, research, healthcare, and quality missions of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. The position provides administrative oversight and management of educational programs, general operations, budget development, fiscal and administrative compliance, supervision of staff, recruitment, purchasing, space allocation and utilization, search coordination, and diversity. The position serves as a strategic partner to the Chair, Vice Chair's, and any associated Division Directors, as well as other senior leadership and staff in the planning and implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives that support the primary mission areas of the department. The position is directly responsible for ensuring that administrative and operational activities comply with Department, university, Practice Plan and educational policies and procedures. The position is responsible for the training and development of all direct reports and providing guidance/direction and resources to other department staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management and Oversight: Directs all administrative activities for both the Department, ensuring compliance with state and university rules and regulations. Accountable for department fiscal matters, including budget development, budget monitoring and financial reporting, purchasing decisions and processes, accounts payable processing, foundation support, clinic productivity, and revenue cycle operation activities at the department level. Prepares and presents budget for assigned divisions and monitors compliance of each cost center within the approved budget, to include lab services.
Recruiting: Maintains department compliance with faculty recruitment efforts including screening and reviewing applicant information, scheduling and participating in interviews and facilitating search committee meetings. Develops faculty proformas that align with practice benchmarks for recruitment committee review. Personnel management of department staff in partnership with Central Human Resources, including recruitment, selection, training, development, evaluation, counseling, disciplinary action(s) and termination, compliance, and reporting. Assesses shortfalls in staffing and leads strategic efforts for coverage; fosters working relationships among groups.
Strategy: Participates in department's strategic planning process by developing annual and long-term goals that align with the mission of the department, implements the strategies and action plans of each sub-area, advises on actions to achieve success, and monitor's progress. Participates in other key department projects as part of the unit's Executive Management Committee. Serves on Department Administrator Committee meetings.
Academic Administration: Assists the Department Chair with coordinating and managing the tenure and promotion process with the Department. Responsible for ensuring that semester effort reports are completed and authorized in a timely fashion using the University of South Florida's on-line faculty effort report system(s). Responsible for ensuring that annual faculty evaluations are completed, distributed, and returned to the Department Chair. Supervise and provide support for departmental student and graduate medical education programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and three years of professional business experience; OR a Master's degree and one year of professional business experience. Appropriate experience clinical operations or the department's specialty may substitute on a year for year basis for the required degree.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
MBA Preferred.
