The Senior Ophthalmic Assistant is an important part of the Ophthalmic team assisting in the effort to prevent, detect, diagnose, and manage conditions that interfere with sight. The primary focus is on diagnosis and documentation of the eye under the supervision of certified provider.Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED. | LICENSE & CERTIFICATION: None. | Minimum Required: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
• Engages in population appropriate communication.
• Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
• Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
• Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, updating and filing patient medical records/insurance forms.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
• Maintain maintenance of the clinic area including but not to limited to: cleaning and stocking examination rooms, daily setup and securing of computer (laptops) equipment, and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.

Patient Intake:
• Obtain vital signs, specimens, and other necessary information as required for proper evaluation of patient in accordance with the UC Health competencies always utilizing universal precautions.
• Assists the provider in documenting notes, orders and prescriptions by setting them up in the Electronic Medical Record.
• Performs treatments, administers medication and/or operates equipment safely.
• Administers ophthalmic dilating eye drops
• Assists physician with invasive procedures
• Visual Acuity Testing
• Snellen
• Chart distance Acuity testing.
• Visual Field
• Color vision testing.
• Near Acuity testing.

Care Coordination:
• Return routine patient telephone calls as directed and document actions taken.
• Coordinate ancillary services such as diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures and/or admission, additional patient visits, and acquisition of pertinent medical records.
• Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
• Assist in the implementation of age-appropriate care for specific patient population including provision of direct patient care as part of the clinical team.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
